As we will discover in the theology section, the Bible is God’s view of the world, collected for us. This is important because life is filled with voices that tell us what to believe and how to live. As we read the Bible in our quiet time, we get to know who God is, how He works, and how we can live a better life. When we begin ap- plying what we read, we begin to experience the promised results: inner peace and freedom, wisdom and understanding, and so much more. This builds our trust in God, and the cycle of growth continues (Ps. 1, 19:7–11, 119:97–105; Rom. 12:1–2; 1 Pet. 1:23–25).

Several tools can help you read the Bible. You can follow along with a reading plan, listen to an audio version, or just read it as you would a book. While different apps have Bible reading plans, we encourage you to follow along with the Bible Reading Plan found at the bottom of this section. It’s compiled from fifty important passages in the Bible that will help you read through the main storyline.
Contemplating the Bible
As we spend focused time thinking through one passage that we read in the Bible, we can gain unique insights that transform our lives.
As an example, write down one or two passages of scripture and look at that scripture over a few days. As you focus, write all the ideas that come to your mind as a result.
But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night. Ps. 1
Memorizing
As you invest time memorizing scripture, you’ll see that at key moments in your life, those verses will come back to you. Start with short passages and work your way up to more substantial chapters.
I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Ps. 119:11
Studying
It’s possible to go deeper in your understanding of the Bible by learning to study the Bible. See the section on studying the Bible.
And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth. Acts 17:11
